SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have one year of experience at a

level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes knowledge of and familiarity with local and regional food systems policy and practice, including experience participating in the design, execution or management of programs related to local and regional food systems. Specialized experience also includes knowledge of and familiarity with federal child nutrition assistance programs, including experience operating, or overseeing and/or supporting the implementation of school meal programs.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: You must possess extensive experience implementing and managing community food systems or farm to school programming and have proven effective working relationships with community food systems or farm to school practitioners and coalitions.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The category rating procedure is used to rank and select eligible candidates. Under category rating, applicants who meet basic minimum qualification requirements established for the position and whose job related competencies have been assessed are ranked by being placed in one of the following categories: Best Qualified, Well Qualified, and Qualified. Preference eligibles are listed ahead of non-preference eligibles within each category.

  • Extensive knowledge of research methods and analytical techniques as well as the ability to discern, analyze and evaluate significant trends in program participation, cost, and administration.
  • Knowledge of management evaluations, local reviews and reporting policies, procedures and practices to ensure effective program operations.
