What is Metro Caring?
As Colorado's leading frontline anti-hunger organization, Metro Caring works with our community to meet people's immediate need for nutritious food while building a movement to address the root causes of hunger.

Metro Caring offers innovative programming in Healthy Foods Access, Nutrition Education and Cooking Classes, ID Procurement, Urban Gardening and Agriculture, and Community Organizing and Activation. 

Food is What We Do
At Metro Caring, we're meeting people's immediate food needs while addressing the root cause of hunger: poverty. We provide nutritious groceries to our neighbors, and also offer comprehensive anti-hunger resources so that families can stop hunger at its root.

Our Fresh Foods Market is at the heart of Metro Caring. Shoppers choose from an array of nutritious foods based on their dietary needs and preferences, and leave with a week's supply of groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, dairy, and lean protein.

Get Food
You are welcome to visit our market for a wide variety of fresh, nutritious food at no cost. Our market is filled with fresh produce, dairy, meat and plenty of other items.

Hydroponic Farm
Metro Caring owns a hydroponic container farm, which we call the Hydro Farm. It's an upcycled shipping container outfitted with a drip irrigation system designed to grow leafy green vegetables year-round!

Community Gardens
When you join Metro Caring's Community Gardens, you become a member of our Metro Caring family. We believe that healthy food is a right - not a privilege. In order to do our part in dismantling systemic privilege in our local food system, applications from participants at Metro Caring are prioritized. A portion of our plots are also reserved for gardeners who are committed to allyship and anti-hate values, because we believe that everyone must pursue equity in all spaces.

Additionally, we strive to make gardening financially accessible to everyone. We always accept donations, but do not require a plot fee. We partner with Denver Urban Gardens and Botanical Interests to offer discounted or free seeds, seedlings and workshops. We do our best to share resources like compost and tools when we can and we encourage organic, no-till growing methods.

We have two community gardens: one located at St. John's Cathedral at 13th & Washington; one located at the park on 18th & Humboldt. We take applications and assign plots in February each year for both locations.

Community Activation
We see community building as the key to successfully ending hunger. Join our community activation efforts as we work with our community to prepare leaders to occupy all areas of influence that impact the food equity movement. We want to shift power to the people that are most impacted by inequity in the existing food system.

The Caring Voices in Action (CVA) are a collective of community members who are dedicated to shifting power structures that do not reflect them. We are amplifying voices in our community to influence the policies and institutions that affect us.

Together, we can change local policy and improve the economic quality of life for all those living in poverty in our city.

ID Assistance
Do you need an ID? A driver's license? A birth certificate? Metro Caring can provide you with a voucher for one of these documents, essential for employment, housing, healthcare, and more. For Colorado-state ID, driver's license, and birth certificate requests, vouchers are available at Metro Caring, Monday through Friday, 9:30am-11:30am and 12:30pm - 3:00pm, without an appointment.
