Denver weather: Tornadoes, baseball-sized hail, damaging winds forecast

Memorial Day will be mostly sunny in the morning but clouds will gather in the afternoon and some thunderstorms and rain showers are expected.

There’s a 30 percentage chance of rain and thunderstorms, mostly between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. The chance for thunderstorms will increase at night. Wind gusts of up to 25 mph are possible.

The high temperature will be around 74 degrees on Memorial Day in Denver.

It will be quite a different story in the mountains, where there is a chance of heavy snow on Monday, the NWS says.

“A strong late spring storm will bring some other round of possibly heavy snow to the north central mountains of Colorado north of Interstate 70,” a Monday NWS bulletin says.

Between 8 and 16 inches of snow could fall through Tuesday night, the weather service says. A winter storm watch is in place for the north central mountains.

Rain showers are likely on Tuesday afternoon, when the high temperature will only reach about 53 degrees, the NWS says. It will get breezy under cloudy skies at night.

The chance for rain showers will diminish on Wednesday. There’s about a 20 percentage chance of rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, the weather service says. The high temperature will be in the 50s again.

A tune-up begins under mostly sunny skies on Thursday, when the high temperature will reach near 67 degrees, forecasters say.

By Friday, temperatures will climb to about 75 degrees. There is still a slight chance for rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

High temperatures will reach the mid-70s on some Saturday and Sunday, the NWS says. Each day there is a slight chance for rain and thunderstorms, the weather service says.
